A one-month internship at a criminal litigation chamber in New Delhi provided an opportunity to observe the functioning of criminal law practice and the day-to-day work involved in handling complex legal matters.

This internship helped bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical legal work. It also offered valuable insights into the discipline, preparation, and confidence required for effective legal practice.

The internship was completed at a criminal litigation chamber located in Defence Colony, New Delhi.

Application Process

The application process involved submitting a curriculum vitae along with a cover letter to the official email address of the chamber. After review of the application, the opportunity to intern for one month was offered.

Nature of Work Assigned

During the internship, exposure was gained to various aspects of criminal litigation. The work primarily involved legal research, drafting assistance, and observing courtroom proceedings.

Research work was undertaken on several statutes and special criminal laws, including:

Based on the cause list, interns were assigned preparatory work for matters scheduled for hearing.

Court Exposure

One of the most valuable aspects of the internship was the opportunity to observe courtroom proceedings in several courts across Delhi.

On certain occasions, live arguments and proceedings before the Supreme Court of India were also observed.

Office Environment

The working environment within the chamber was disciplined and research-oriented. Preparation for upcoming hearings was treated with seriousness, and discussions regarding cases scheduled for the following day were often conducted in advance.

Evening discussions were particularly useful because associates would analyze case files, discuss legal strategies, and prepare arguments for upcoming hearings.
